Curious how T Mobile FamilyWhere works, if it can be enable remotely, and if a data plan is required. |

The T-Mobile FamilyWhere app works similar to many of the spy & tracking apps you find online. How It Works? What Can It Do? FamilyWhere will keep track of your family by locating their phones through GPS or network location. Family members’ locations are represented by icons displayed on a map, which you can view on the Web or your mobile device. Location information is delivered on demand at your request, or it can be configured to perform automatic location checks on specific family members’ locations (for example, it can tell you if your child is at or near his or her school during the day). Phones Supported? Android How Much? 1st 30 days free, then $9.99 per month / $119.88 per year. Is It A Buy? If you only need to track your family, T-Mobile's FamilyWhere program looks to be decent. It can easily track/location your family members, and has GEO fencing features so you can get notified if your family members go outside a predetermined zone. However, what it doesn't have is the ability to monitor text messages, emails, photos, and other phone activity. This might not be important to some parents, but in the age of sexting, and with all the questionable content online, some parents might want a way to monitor these items as well. Other Options? I personally think an app like StealthGenie (www.stealth-genie.com) is perfect for parents who want to not only monitor their family's location, but also keep an eye on texts, photos, emails etc.. StealthGenie is my favorite for parental monitoring because unlike other spy and tracking apps on the market, StealthGenie has a triggers and alerts that will notify you when certain keywords, email addresses, numbers, etc.. are activated. This means if you are a parent and want to monitor certain keywords, you set them up as a 'trigger' and when one of these are activated you'll get notified. Other features include location tracking, on demand location info, reading emails, viewing photos, listening to music stored on the phone, recording calls, remote monitoring, and more. GEO fencing is also going to be available. How much? $99-$199 per year. Bottom line, T-Mobile FamilyWhere is good for parents who ONLY need to track and locate their kids, but if you need to do more than location tracking, you might want to take a look at some of the more powerful Android tracking and spy apps such as StealthGenie. |
